The final meeting of the Fatima Club was held this year, it was dedicated to sustainable practices in everyday life. Eco-activists Evgenia Postnova and Almaz Barataliev shared their experience. The event is organized by the AUCA Center for Civic Engagement.

Yevgeny Postnova's presentation was called "Sustainable practices for residents of apartments and private houses" and told how to adhere to environmental principles at home. Much has been shown by the example of the "Eco-house on Bystrotok", the founders of which are Evgenii and Almaz.

As Evgenia said, there is a great interest in ecological houses all over the world now, and it is dictated, of course, by the problems that more and more people face every day. As she noted, "it is time for everyone to act."

What is an eco-house? This is a system with the accumulation of an ecological resource in the process of human activity. It consists of an energy-efficient house and a plot that is necessary for the disposal of all waste and the cultivation of plant crops using methods that increase the ecological resource.

In private households and apartment buildings, in order to ensure sustainable development, attention must be paid to improving energy efficiency, water conservation, wastewater treatment, organic and inorganic waste management, microclimate management, food safety and the cultivation of organic products. The presentation showed in great detail the solution of these tasks, both for houses and apartments, what difficulties can be encountered in their implementation and how they can be overcome. Special attention was paid to the cultivation of organic products, which is a significant link in ensuring food safety. As it turned out, it is quite possible to cope with this task in an apartment.

Almaz Barataliev showed simple practical solutions for growing various crops in an apartment in a limited space. This includes a vegetable garden on the windowsill, and vertical beds with the use of hydroponics. This part of the workshop aroused great interest among its participants, there were many questions.

The presentation by Margarita Lazutkina, coordinator of the Green AUCA project, was devoted to useful eco-habits and how they will help save money. As it turned out, not all actions aimed at improving the environment are effective. For example, many people abandon plastic bags in favor of paper ones. However, oddly enough, paper bags are no less harmful to nature than plastic ones. Firstly, their production requires paper, for the production of which forests are cut down. And secondly, the production of paper bags is more energy-intensive than plastic ones. In this situation, it is better to choose fabric shoppers. It is important to save energy and resources. It is necessary to install water meters, turn off the water when it is not needed during washing, brushing teeth and other hygienic procedures. Effectively use LED bulbs instead of traditional incandescent bulbs. All this is not difficult to apply in everyday life, it brings real benefits not only to the environment, but also saves money.

The workshop ended with a game in which its participants were able to consolidate their knowledge and win valuable prizes.
